Window size and rafter spacing

VELUX roof windows are manufactured in various standard sizes and installed at specific rafter spacings. Ideally, the rafter spacing should be 5cm wider than the window width so the thermal and moisture insulation around the window can be perfectly installed.

TIP:

⚠️ VERY IMPORTANT: It is essential to precisely measure the rafters before purchasing, ideally with a professional installer! A measurement error can result in a window that cannot be installed. Call us and we will connect you with a certified installer who will visit the site for free, determine the rafter spacing and help you choose the right window size and model.

Standard sizes:

Spacing 60 cm → CK windows (55 cm)
Spacing 72 cm → FK windows (66 cm)
Spacing 83 cm → MK windows (78 cm)
Spacing 100 cm → SK windows (94 cm)

Choose a window model

Once you determine which window size suits you, you should choose the window model. We offer Basic windows with double glazing and Standard windows with triple glazing.

TIP:

White polyurethane windows are suitable for rooms with higher humidity (bathroom, kitchen).

BASIC – Double glazing

  • GZL – Natural wood color, clear lacquer
  • GLU – White polyurethane (maintenance-free)

STANDARD – Triple glazing

  • GLL – Natural wood color, clear lacquer
  • GLU – White polyurethane (maintenance-free)
03

Choose the appropriate number of windows

To find the required number of windows in a room, divide the size of your room in m² by ten to get the optimal roof window size.

TIP:

For proper room lighting, VELUX recommends that the glass area be at least 10% of the room's floor area.

Calculation example:

Room 30m² ÷ 10 = 3m² of glass area needed

04

Choose the appropriate products for installation

VELUX roof windows should be installed with the appropriate flashing, precisely made to fit specific window sizes and ensure a watertight connection between your window and the roofing material.

It is particularly important to note if windows are installed one above another or side by side – that is, separated only by a rafter – so that the appropriate combination flashing is purchased.
